Mercor Is Hiring Mac Users to Record and Narrate Real Work
TL;DR: Mercor is hiring people with a Mac to record their screen while they do real work in their field and narrate what they are doing and why. Offers are coming quickly right now and onboarding is paid. My offer was $50 an hour. I do not know how long the contract runs. If you have a recent Mac, a quiet room and a skill you can show off for 15 to 50 minutes at a time, apply through this link.
I just signed on for this one, and the offer moved faster than anything I have seen from Mercor.
No weeks of silence after the application. No unpaid assessment marathon. The offer came quick, and onboarding is paid.
If you own a Mac and you are good at something, this is worth a look while the door is open.
What the Work Is
AI companies want to see how professionals actually use a computer. Not a script. Not a demo. A real person doing a real piece of work, clicking through real apps, and explaining the choices along the way.
So that is the job. You:
- Pitch a task from your own field. You write up the work, who it is for, the apps you will use and what you will hand over at the end. A reviewer approves it before you record anything.
- Record yourself doing it. Somewhere between 15 and 50 minutes of screen recording, mostly mouse work, ideally across about three apps that each pull their weight.
- Narrate as you go. What you are doing, where on the screen you are doing it, and why you chose that move. The test they use is simple: could someone with their eyes closed follow along?
- Wrap it up out loud. Each recording ends with a three to four minute spoken look back on how it went and what you would do differently.
- Upload the files and submit. An automated checker runs first, then a human reviewer.
The fields are wide. Architecture, audio and music production, business and consulting, design, data science and software, education, engineering, finance, marketing and sales, healthcare, HR, photography, IT support, legal, research, writing, animation and video all have a lane.
The key word in every one of them is meaningful. Opening three apps and clicking around does not make a task hard. They want work that shows judgment, the kind of thing you would get paid for in your actual job.
What You Need
This is where most people will sort themselves out, so check it before you apply.
- A Mac running macOS 15 or newer. Apple silicon is the main target. An Intel version of the recording app was just added, but the M series is what the project was built around.
- 16 GB of memory is the comfortable number. 8 GB technically works and sometimes struggles.
- A lot of free disk space. Plan on roughly 35 GB free for a 20 minute recording. Longer or more graphic heavy tasks need more.
- Fast, stable internet. The upload files are big.
- A quiet room and a voice you do not mind hearing. You are narrating the whole time.
- A Mac you can clean up. Your desktop, notifications and anything personal cannot show in a recording, so expect to set up Do Not Disturb, clear your desktop and use a fresh browser just for this work.
What I Do Not Know Yet
I do not know how long this contract runs. Mercor projects tend to come in waves, and nobody has told me when this one ends.
Terms on this project have also changed more than once since it started. Read your own offer letter closely and go by what it says, not by what someone in a forum heard.
And the standing rule from our Mercor coverage: money is not yours until it clears. Do not budget around a bonus or a rate until you have been paid it at least once.
The Referral Disclosure
The link below is my Mercor referral link. Using it costs you nothing. If you get hired through it, Mercor may pay me a referral bonus. You should know that before you click.
Same rule as always: if anyone asks you to pay money to apply for AI training work, walk away. Legitimate platforms pay you.
