Thinking About Applying

RWS (TrainAI)

The RWS TrainAI Search Quality Rater exam is brutal — 3 parts, multiple days. Pass it and you have one of the most stable gigs in the industry.

1

The "Guidelines are Law" Standard

RWS is a global leader in localization. They look for consistency above all else — not creativity, not speed.

  • The Handbook is Everything: For Search Quality Rating (SQR), you must follow their 100+ page guideline handbook to the letter. Deviation, even well-intentioned, will fail your work.
  • Human-Centric Judgment: They focus on how a regular user would perceive an AI result, requiring a blend of logic and common sense rather than technical expertise.
2

Prepare for the 3-Part Exam — This Takes Days

The RWS entrance exam is one of the most demanding in the industry.

  • One Rater Per Household: They only allow one rater per household and IP address. If your roommate or spouse is already a rater, you're disqualified.
  • The 3-Part Exam: Notoriously difficult. Expect to spend multiple days working through it. Do not rush — this is not a quick application.
3

RWS TrainAI Pay — Steady, Structured, Hourly

There are no surprise bonuses or tier jumps at RWS. What you see is what you get.

  • US Raters: Typically $17–$22/hr for Search Quality Rating work.
  • International: Rates are adjusted for local economies.
  • The Catch: It is strictly hourly, and they often have a minimum or maximum hour requirement per week — typically 10–20 hours.
4

Reality Check — Old-School Communication, Long-Term Stability

Don't expect a modern platform experience. Do expect to still be working here years from now.

  • Old-School Support: Communication is mostly via email and support tickets. There is no Slack, no Discord, no community feel.
  • Longevity: If you pass the exam and maintain quality, RWS projects can run for years without interruption — rare in this industry.

The Verdict

The Steady Paycheck. It's the least flashy AI job, but it's the most stable for those who prefer a predictable routine. Pass the exam, do consistent work, and RWS projects can last for years.
